The mount's abbey has enormous architectural significance. In September of 2006 an impressive reimagining of Mont St. Michel by scientist and artist Laurent Maget took place, with the very able assistance of the French Army. Le Mont Solaire turned the abbey's spire into the gnomon of a sundial, by placing large reflective numerals on the surrounding sands.
